UNDERWIRE FESTIVAL

It’s the UK largest female short film festival and is now BAFTA recognised.

It was founded in 2010 by Gabriella Apicella and Gemma Mitchell. 

The festival awards for Directing, Producing, Screenwriting, Editing, Cinematography, Sound Design, Composing, Production Design and Animation, and any short film that has a woman in one of those roles is eligible. 

With the opening night on the 13th of September, the 2019 edition will take place over nine days in different cinemas in London, with a spicy programme of shorts selections and special events. 

Submissions for 2020 are going to open in October.

WOMEN OVER 50 FILM FESTIVAL

As it’s suggested, the films to be eligible have to have a woman over 50 at its centre on screen or have a woman over 50 in the core creative team (writer, director or producer). And we love it! WOFFF19 runs from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September in Depot, Lewes BN7 2JS. New submissions are gonna open in early 2020. The prizes are for Best Drama, Best Documentary, Best animation, Best experimental, Audience Choice award, Best Student Film and The Shedunnit Productions Prize.

Beverly Hills female filmmakers festival. 2019 edition will run from the 17th to the 20th October and submissions for 2020 are going to open early in the year. The prizes for the various categories are a crystal award, gifts and prizes valued up to $3,000 and the Distribution Partner offers distribution deals annually to those selected to screen.

Interesting documentary online festival. The selected films are made by women and/or about women’s social, economic, and political issues. Films by all genders are eligible for entry. Cash prices from $500 (for Outstanding Youth Film) to $3000 (for Leslie J. Sacks Grand Prize Award for Best Film). The submission for 2020 are opening in September 2019. The online event will then be in March 2020.

BEIRUT INTERNATIONAL WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL

Beirut International Women Film Festival (BWFF) is an annual event held in Beirut, under the theme “Women Empowerment”; gathering filmmakers and cinema lovers from all over the world, BWFF tackles issues such as gender equality, sexual identity, domestic violence among others through the power of the lens and cinema which is the window to society and particularly women in this case.

The Phoenician Goddess Tanith is the Symbol of the festival, she is a Sky Goddess who ruled over the Sun, Stars, and Moon. BWFF took "Tanith" as its symbol, and made "Tanith of Beirut” its prime award. Submissions are now open for the March 2020 edition.

Started in 1997, in 2019 it’s running from the end of August to the beginning of September. Very generous cash prizes and more! The Korean and International feature selections are full of quirky and interesting films. From this year they are launching also a new section: “pitch&catch”.
